This Shirt Saves Horses’ Lives

This Shirt Saves Horses’ Lives

UPDTE NOVEMBER 2021:

Back for the first time since JUNE of 2020. Once again available for a limited time.

Proceeds from this t-shirt go to helping our friends at Horse Rescue Fund.

Horse Rescue Fund is dedicated to raising funds and distributing those funds to equine rescues and sanctuaries in Canada and the United States that are registered charities — or not.

Horse Rescue Fund also recognizes the need, especially during these turbulent times, to help  individuals who are trying to do the right thing, but struggling to care for their equines.

There are many cases where what might end with a beloved horse being sent to slaughter, euthanized, sold or relinquished can be prevented by a gift of funds.

Horse Rescue Fund  strives to raise awareness about the necessity of education on all aspects of equine ownership.

Through education Horse Rescue Fund believes that the number of horses being slaughtered for human consumption, and the number of other horses in need, will diminish.

Horse Rescue Fund also supports efforts to save (evacuate, vet,  stable and feed) equines during and after natural disasters such as forest fires, flooding, mudslides, etc.

Look closely and you’ll notice that actress Kate Drummond is wearing a  limited edition T-shirt.  (Sorry it’s sold out BUT click the button below for another very special t-shirt.)

Proceeds from the sales of this T-shirt go towards banning the slaughter of  horses within Canada and beyond.

Kate posts…  “I’m just a girl, sitting in the middle of racks of couture, asking one of them to be the perfect dress 😉💕🙏 Thank you Jordan Stewart for the delicious afternoon of dress up, friendship-building and laughs. I am so excited to wear your masterpiece at the CSAs this month. 🔥

CANADA SLAUGHTERS HORSES FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

It may be hard for some to believe that tens of thousands of horses, including pets, are routinely slaughtered in Canada, for human consumption.

Some of the meat is consumed in Canada and much of it is shipped to the European Union and other markets, including  Japan.

The barbaric slaughter of horses is currently not legal in the United States, BUT  horses, including pets and ex-racehorses, from the United States are shipped to Canada and to Mexico to be slaughtered.

In addition Canada allows for the transportation of live horses to Japan,  to be slaughtered for human consumption, and unfortunately the transportation of horses destined for slaughter within Canada, and by air, is far from humane.

Horse Heroes Alberta

Horse Heroes Alberta

If you know how Horse Heroes Alberta started, you’ll know who Molly is. For 3 agonizing months, she was searched for. TV, radio and newspaper ran her story across Canada.  Christmas eve, 2018, Molly was released in a local field. She went on to have a happy, healthy filly named Moxie. Because of her, the doors were opened and a new group – Horse Heroes Alberta –  was formed. People came from far and wide to show support. Molly’s story is amazing and shows how humans CAN come together to be a change.

Kaley Cuoco – Big Bang Theory

Kaley Cuoco – Big Bang Theory

30 SECOND VIDEO

You probably recognize Kaley Cuoco from the TV series, “The Big Bang Theory“, but did you know she is an avid horsewoman and that in February 2016, she participated in a campaign that contributed to stopping the slaughter of horses for human consumption within the United States? [Watch the video BELOW.]

American horses are still routinely shipped to either Mexico or Canada for slaughter, so there is still work to be done.

2023 UPDATE:  For the time the inspection of horses being slaughtered in the USA is still not being funded by the US government.  However, thousands of horses are still routinely shipped from the USA to Canada and Mexico for slaughter.

The horses exported from the USA to Canada and Mexico include pet horses, race horses, rodeo stock, and sport horses — horses of all types and all ages.

Horses are hauled in leg-breaking trailers for up to 3 days at a time without food, water or vet care and in extreme cold and heat.

Recently a push – AKA the SAFE ACT –  to stop the export of horses from the USA to Canada and Mexico for slaughter failed but the act got further through the political system/process than previous attempts and rumour has it that as early as May of 2023 another version of the SAFE ACT may be launched.

You can learn more about the SAFE ACT here.

Click here for steps you can take right now to help ban the slaughter of horses within Canada and beyond, including the live export of horses to Japan to be slaughtered there.

Prairie Dark Room Trisia Eddy

Prairie Dark Room Trisia Eddy

Here’s another great example of an amazing Horse Hero.  Someone who puts her actions and her money where her mouth is.  Meet  photographer extraordinaire and horse advocate Trisia Eddy, from The Prairie Dark Room, in Alberta, Canada.

Like so many Trisia is incredibly busy with family and work but even still she recently took the time to shoot and share gorgeous pictures, and to write and share compelling thoughts on the matter of horse slaughter.

In addition she recently volunteered and built a website for Horse Heroes Alberta.

Our hat is off to Trisia who writes:

“⁣It feels exciting and adventurous to be in the field, taking pictures of horses in the wild, or at liberty, at play. However, spend enough time as an advocate for horses, and eventually you will be confronted with the other side of the field: the auction house. ⁣

It is a sad reality that as a society, we have created a system which commodifies animals, and horses are no exception. Attend auctions routinely, and you will soon realize that the majority of the animals coming through the door wind up on the truck to the slaughterhouse.

Trace the path of these horses and one cannot help but be appalled: the system is poorly managed, the meat is not fit for human consumption (despite the high prices it garners,) and people willingly turn a blind eye to the amount of indiscriminate over-breeding and abuse that is rampant. ⁣

Taking pictures at the auction is controversial and difficult. Some argue it creates unnecessary tension, and insist that it shouldn’t be done. As a photographer, however, it is my role to capture what I see. To me, there is no difference between sharing an image of a horse enjoying freedom, wild in the mountains, and a horse captive in a pen, waiting to be sold to a meat buyer…they are all equal. They show affection to one another, they express interest in the humans they interact with. They exhibit pain and fear. Each and every one of them deserve recognition as a being worthy of respect; each and every one deserve to have their story told.⁣”
