JANN ARDEN TO THE RESCUE YET AGAIN

Thank you to Canadian icon Jann Arden for using her celebrity status to help a long time rescuer of horses destined for slaugher with a $1,000 donation.

AND once again Jann is raising awareness of the fact that horses are slaughtered within Canada and beyond — for human consumption.

As you may or may not know, Jann is spearheading a #horseshit campaign to raise awareness and funding to support CHDC (Canadian Horse Defence Coalition)  and other not for profit organizaitons within Canada.

Many in Canada do not realize that horses are slaughtered within Canada for human consumption so when you hear 77 year old horse rescuer Raven Johnson and the newscasters from CBC refer to saving horses from the meat truck — you now know that at least some of the horses in the care of Earth Arc have been spared from ending up on dinner plates within Canada and other countries.

Raven Johnson of Earth Arc and her volunteers are currently looking after 18 horses.

Keep in mind that Raven is 77 years young, and is recovering from a broken tibia, and if you know anything about providing for horse you know that the monthly bill for looking after that many rescued horses is hefty, even without the inevitable emergency vet calls.

Located outside of Salt Springs, Nova Scotia, Canada, Earth Arc has multiple ways to donate.

CANADA SLAUGHTERS HORSES FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

It may be hard for some to believe that tens of thousands of horses, including pets, are routinely slaughtered in Canada, for human consumption.

Some of the meat is consumed in Canada and much of it is shipped to the European Union and other markets, including  Japan.

The barbaric slaughter of horses is currently not legal in the United States, BUT  horses, including pets and ex-racehorses, from the United States are shipped to Canada and to Mexico to be slaughtered.

In addition Canada allows for the transportation of live horses to Japan,  to be slaughtered for human consumption, and unfortunately the transportation of horses destined for slaughter within Canada, and by air, is far from humane.
