Located in Alberta, Canada, Horse Heroes Alberta is NOT your average horse rescue.
Horse Heroes Alberta came to be after founder Cindy Thomas’ clydesdale Molly was stolen from her ranch in 2018.
During that time Cindy became aware of the horrors of horse slaughter within Canada for human consumption.
As Molly’s story gained attention, coast to coast from the Canadian press, Cindy didn’t miss an opportunity to educate Canadians about the horrors of horse slaughter.
550 HORSES SAVED FROM THE SLAUGHTER PIPELINE
Molly was set loose by those who stole her and ultimately found and returned to Cindy in good shape.
It was obvious she’d been locked up in someone’s barn because her mane and tail were free of debris and had been recently brushed.
Once Molly was safe and sound at home, Cindy rallied those who joined in the search for Molly to advocate for the banning of horse slaughter in Canada — and to help rescue horses in Alberta and beyond.
Fast forward to March of 2021 and a little over 2 years since Molly’s return, Cindy and her dedicated team of supporters have pulled over 550 horses from the slaughter pipeline.
Yes, you read that correctly, over 550 horses have been saved from slaughter by Cindy and her supporters.

Horse Heroes Alberta would like owners of horses to know that sending a horse to auction, or selling on sites like Kijiji, could very well result in the horse being purchased by a meat AKA kill buyer…
BUT there are other options.
The safest option is of course not to sell your horse — but if you are in a situation where you can not keep your horse — please know that there may be help.
Please reach out to Horse Heroes Alberta. If HHA can’t help, they will do their best to direct you to someone who can.
HHA's DEDICATED TEAM...
When Horse Heroes Alberta hears about horses in need, HHA enlists the help of dedicated volunteers to search for the best home possible for the horses.
In over 550 cases their advocacy for horses has resulted in happy endings.
Often horses will be transported to Cindy Thomas’ ranch in Alberta, Canada where they are evaluated and receive any necessary veterinary care.
They are cared for until a forever, loving home can be found.
HOW YOU CAN HELP...
HHA needs help. You can help by watching auction sites, volunteering to haul, or volunteering to temporarily foster, or permanently adopt, a horse or horses.
LIke other rescue organizations Horse Heroes Alberta is only able to continue working towards saving horses if the funds are available. Any contribution, big or small is appreciated.
