IS BILL C-355 DEAD & WHAT'S NEXT?
When Bill C-355 reached the Senate, Senator Pierre Dalphond stepped up as a powerful ally in the fight to end the live export of horses for slaughter. His support gave hope to thousands of Canadians who want to see this cruel practice banned for good.
As we approach the federal election, Bill C-355 has unfortunately died on the order paper. But the fight isn’t over—and with strong voices like Senator Dalphond’s, it doesn’t have to be.
💬 We’re asking Senator Dalphond to reintroduce a similar bill in the Senate after the election. With continued public pressure and political will, we can finally turn this promise into law.
Please join us in thanking Senator Dalphond for his commitment, and urge him to keep pushing forward on this critical issue. Together, we can end the suffering.

RECENT HISTORY…
PROPOSED BILL TO BAN LIVE EXPORT OF HORSES TO SLAUGHTER
If passed Bill C-355… prohibits the export by air from Canada of live horses for the purpose of being slaughtered or fattened for slaughter and — again, IF passed — it will make changes to related amendments to certain Acts.
THANK YOU PRIME MINISTER TRUDEAU
We are grateful to Prime Minister Trudeau for working to fulfill his election promise to ban the live export of horses by air for slaughter.
Thanks to the support of the Liberal Party, a bill to end this cruel and inhumane practice—Bill C-355—has successfully passed four critical stages in Parliament. The Conservative Party, however, has opposed this bill at every single step.
Now, the final decision rests with the Canadian Senate. Prime Minister Trudeau and Members of Parliament can no longer advance the bill—it is in the hands of Senators. (That said, there remains another way to ban the live export of horses for slaughter, as noted above.)

It is important to emphasize: Not a single Conservative MP has voted in favor of Bill C-355 at any stage. Nor has any Bloc Québécois MP.
Scroll down for documentation, including video proof, showing how Conservatives have fought against this bill—putting politics above the humane treatment of animals.

WHY BILL C-355?
Horse slaughter for human consumption is legal within Canada and currently, two plants, one in Alberta and another in Quebec are slaughtering horses for that purpose.
In addition, Canada allows for the transportation of live horses to other countries including Japan to be slaughtered for human consumption.

Bill C-355 – if passed – would ban the inhumane transportation of horses destined by air to Japan (and other markets) for slaughter.
The transportation by air for the purposes of slaughter in no way resembles the way sport, show, race and pet horses are carefully transported.
P.S. As you listen to Conservative and Bloc Quebecois Members of Parliament argue in Parliament against the need to ban the inhumane live export of horses to Japan and other markets for the purpose of slaughter — please keep the video above and the following videos in mind.

AMERICAN?
Bill C-355 and Bill S-270 are specifically for Canadians BUT…
As of May 2023 there is a new version of the SAFE ACT that Americans can help facilitate the passing of.
The Safe Act is designed to ban the export of horses from the USA to Canada and Mexico – or to any other country – for slaughter BUT to be passed massive action on the part of Americans is needed – NOW.
